NBA All-Star Weekend has come and gone. (The West All-Stars defeated the East 143-138) While the game itself gained a 4.3 national Nielsen rating overnight, ranking fourth all-time for the TNT network, it's safe to assume that not many were tuned into Friday night's Rising Stars Challenge or Saturday night's Skills Competition. Pistons second-year point/shooting guard Brandon Knight was in both. Pistons 101 has the results, the reaction, and quotes from Knight's weekend.
On Friday night as a member of the Charles Barkley coached "Team Chuck," Knight was a part of a 163-135 win over the Shaquille O'Neal coached "Team Shaq." Knight's presence wasn't anything to write home about though, and TrueHoop Network writer, Jack Winter gave Knight a "C+" grade following the game:
Quiet for the game's majority, Knight battled one-on-one for several possessions with Kyrie Irving late in the second half. While he couldn't completely one-up the first-time All-Star, Knight still had his share of moments, no matter how fleeting.
Move to Saturday night and the Skills Competition. Going up against the likes of Tony Parker, Jeremy Lin, Damian Lillard, Jrue Holiday and Jeff Teague, Knight did more than hold his own. Dribbling, passing, and shooting his way through the guard-related "obstacle course" Knight finished with a time of 32.2 seconds. Knight was unable to make it through to the Jrue Holiday, Damian Lillard final round, but his 32.2 course time was good enough for third overall.
“Just being with guys you can’t be with all the time, your friends that you compete with all the time,” said Knight said during the festivities. “That just creates memories that you can keep forever when you spend time with those guys, especially when you competing and having fun as well…It’s not so much business this time; it’s just relaxing.”
The Pistons will return to practice today, Monday, and won't take the court again until Tuesday night when they welcome Tayshaun Prince and Austin Daye back to the Palace floor. The Pistons will face the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday night, the ball tips-off at 7:30 pm.
